Black Gold FC faced Phoenix FC at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, at the Leduc Recreation Centre Co-op Fieldhouse. The occasion was about more than competition. It celebrated participation, development and the opportunity for more young players to get involved in soccer.
The day also marked another significant first: the matchup was the first EMSA-sanctioned game ever held in Leduc, adding an important chapter to the growth of organized youth soccer in the community.
A milestone for the players. A milestone for Black Gold FC. A milestone for Leduc’s broader soccer community.
The excitement surrounding the event encouraged supporters to show up loud, proud and gold-blooded, filling the LRC with energy and cheering on a group of trailblazing young athletes as they kicked off a new chapter for Black Gold FC.
A Strong Start and a Bright Future
While Black Gold FC ultimately came up just short in a closely contested 4–3 match, the final score told only a small part of the story.
The team’s first game represented something bigger than a win or loss. Taking the field, competing in a one-goal match and establishing a place for the club’s first U10 girls team was an achievement worth celebrating. The players helped open the door for those who will follow and showed that this new chapter for Black Gold FC is already off to a promising start.
Every new team creates another opportunity for young athletes to play, learn, build confidence and become part of the local sporting community. As those opportunities continue to grow, so does the potential for today’s players to remain involved in soccer for years to come.
For Black Gold FC and Leduc’s soccer community, October 17, 2026 was more than the date of a soccer match. It was a day of firsts, a day of progress and the beginning of something new.
The scoreboard read 4–3, but the real victory was seeing Black Gold FC’s first U10 girls team take the field.
